The Belgian port customs did not let through about eight thousand new executive cars, including the new Mercedes-Benz, Lexus and Cadillac, intended for Russia.
The vehicles arrived in Belgium by sea from Asia in early April, meaning both Japanese and American automakers loaded containers before sanctions were imposed. However, it will not be possible to transport cargo through Europe, since the export of luxury goods to Russia has been banned since mid-March.
According to the head of the automobile terminal of the port of Zeebrugge, Mark Adriansen, the sanctions limit the export of vehicles to Russia more expensive than 50 thousand euros, and they will not reach their destination.
In all likelihood, now the cars will be sold in other markets.
