The UK will supply M270 multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) and a sizable amount of M31A1 munitions to Ukraine.

This was stated today by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson.

The statement does not specify the exact number of systems to be received by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. These weapons are supposed to help Ukraine defend itself against Russia’s full-scale aggression.

M270 multiple launch rocket systems offered by the UK can strike targets up to 80 km away with pinpoint accuracy.

This, according to British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, “will offer a significant boost in capability for the Ukrainian forces.”

Alongside the M270 multiple launch rocket systems, the United Kingdom will also supply Ukraine with M31A1 munitions at scale.

The decision to transfer M270 MLRS was in line with the decision of the United States to provide Ukraine with HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems).

Ukrainian troops will be trained to use the launchers in the UK, to maximize the efficiency of the launchers.

The M31A1 is a guided missile for the M270 MLRS. Its maximum range is from 60 to 70+ km.

M30A1 missiles can carry cluster munitions or unitary high-explosive fragments with various characteristics that cause destruction or damage the enemy’s manpower and military equipment. Such warheads are used against such targets as buildings, armored vehicles, and more.

Previously, it was reported that the United Kingdom is asking the United States to sign a supply plan in order to send advanced multiple rocket launchers to Ukraine. The United States must formally approve the move due to export regulations.

The M270 is equipped with a launch system mounted on a crawler chassis from Bradley’s infantry fighting vehicle. The launcher can fire a variety of 227-mm missiles, including high-precision and short-range ballistic missiles of the ATACMS army tactical missile system.

The M270 launcher can accommodate two such modules simultaneously, allowing to launch up to 12 missiles or two ATACMS.
